Process and FAQ

My process

Over 15 years of experience as a graphic designer have allowed me to work with a wide variety of clients. Thanks to them, I have developed a simple, organized, and friendly creative process that works just as well for first-time authors as it does for experienced professionals.

Defining the Project

Together, we create a document that clearly lists every illustration to be produced.

We also discuss pricing, the production schedule, and the terms of the licensing agreement.

Quote Approval & Initial Payment

Once the quote and licensing agreement have been approved, I receive an initial payment to secure the project and begin production.

I create a rough black-and-white sketch.

This first sketch is clear but intentionally simple. Its purpose is to validate the concept and composition without spending time on unnecessary details.

If changes are needed, we discuss them and I prepare a revised sketch.

Once approved, we can refine the brief if necessary before moving on.

For Book Covers

The sketch includes the complete cover design (front cover, spine, and back cover).

For Illustration Projects

If the brief and artistic direction are already well defined, I prepare black-and-white sketches for every illustration in the project.

If the artistic direction is still evolving, I only produce one sketch first. This allows us to discuss the visual direction before moving forward with the remaining illustrations.

I develop the approved sketch by adding colors and refining the details.

This stage is used to validate every important creative decision, including character designs, props, environments, typography and overall art direction.

Once approved, I move on to the final artwork.

I complete the final illustrations by refining every detail.

A final round of revisions is available to correct any small oversights.

Once everything has been approved, I prepare the print-ready files.

Print-ready files are delivered after the final payment has been received.

Board game: schedule depends on the scope of the project

Absolutely.

I offer unlimited revisions unless otherwise specified in the contract. That beeing said, 2 back and forth are often enough.

No.
To be sure we do not forget anything, I always ask for feedback to be written. Oral conversations are just here to meet each other. I never use them for work.

If I enjoy the project and we can find an arrangement that works for both of us, absolutely.

Yes. I’m happy to spread payments throughout the project to reduce the financial burden.

Since each payment is linked to a production milestone, this naturally affects the overall schedule.

Print-ready files are delivered once the final payment has been received.

That depends on the licensing agreement we define together before production begins.
